"I just wanted to remind you all to go and early vote," Haaland said in Arizona, where early voting is underway in a state viewed as crucial in the 2024 election. With less than a month before the polls close on November 5, 2024, early voting is also underway in other states across the nation.

The Canyon de Chelly Ultra is a Navajo-organized utramarathon through the Canyon de Chelly National Monument. A fellow participant in the 55-kilometer run (34 miles) shared a photo of Halaand on the Facebook group for the event.

"I ran a few miles with Interior Secretary Deb Haaland today," Greg Peak wrote on the platform in reference to Haaland's position as the leader of the Department of the Interior, the federal agency with the most trust and treaty responsibilities to tribes and their citizens.

The Canyon de Chelly National Monument is located entirely within the Arizona portion of the Navajo Nation. Managed by the Navajo Nation, it's part of the National Park Service system.
