Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council call out Tim Sheehy at press conference

The Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council (RMTLC) is hosting a press conference to call out U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, a Republican, for his comments that have "betrayed and disparaged" Native people.

The press conference takes place at Sacrifice Cliff in Billings, Montana, at 9:30am Mountain Time on Thursday, September 12, 2024. Leaders from the RMTLC, which represents tribes in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho, will provide a statement and take questions.

"The Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council will address Tim Sheehy’s failure to explain and show regret for his recorded comments that betrayed and disparaged the Crow and Native Americans that he has courted for our votes," a news advisory states.

In remarks first reported by Char-Koosta News, Sheehy repeatedly linked Native people to alcohol during his campaign events. On four separate occasions, he was recorded describing people from the Crow Tribe as being "drunk at 8am" and wanting to throw beer cans at him while on the Crow Reservation in Montana.

Despite widespread national and international news coverage of his remarks, Sheehy has refused to explain them. At one of his campaign events, he had spoken about his efforts to reach Native voters.

Sacrifice Cliff, located along the Yellowstone River, is an important site to the Crow Tribe. It was known as a place of meditation and where the tribe confronted a pandemic that was deadly to their people.

The RMTLC news advisory gives the address of Sacrifice Cliff as 228 Coburn Road in Billings.
