“As president, I will tell you, I will always honor tribal sovereignty and respect tribal self-determination and fight for a future where every Native person can realize their aspirations and every Native community is a place of opportunity,” Harris said at the Desert Diamond Arena.
The facility’s naming rights are owned by the Tohono O’odham Nation. The tribe operates the Desert Diamond Casino on Indian trust land across the street from the arena.
The rally was opened by Governor Stephen Roe Lewis of the Gila River Indian Community. He acknowledged that the event was taking place on O’odham homelands.
