Peggy Flanagan, the Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota, was already all on for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. She took part in a #Natives4Harris virtual event on July 28, 2024, when nearly $40,000 was raised for the campaign.
Now Flanagan has an even stronger connection to the Democratic ticket with Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesota, as the vice presidential pick. The Ojibwe trailblazer from the White Earth Nation took to social media on August 6, 2024, to share her reaction to the news.
“I’ve been friends with Tim Walz for almost 20 years,” Flanagan, who is the highest-ranking Native woman in state executive office, said in her post. “And for more than five years, he’s been my partner in justice at the Minnesota Capitol.
“He has the grit and the grace to keep our country moving forward alongside Kamala Harris,” Flanagan continued. “Let’s get @KamalaHarris and @Tim_Walz elected!”
