NM Native Vote: Every Vote Must be Counted!

A statement from Ahtza Chavez (Kewa), Executive Director, NM Native Vote.

Every Vote Must be Counted!

Albuquerque, NM – We believe in fair and safe elections in New Mexico and because of this, we know that every vote to select our leaders must be counted. Consequently, we will not accept any unofficial result until every eligible vote has been counted. We know due to the coronavirus pandemic it has been challenging for many citizens to cast their ballots in person. As a result, many voters chose to vote by Absentee Ballot and the unprecedented (~380,000+) number of ballots must be counted before any winners are declared.

We are proud of our election workers who have courageously sought to ensure our democracy remains strong. We know that democracy can only be strengthened when citizens are allowed to participate in free and fair elections. We, therefore, should ensure our democracy remains protected by diligently counting each vote to determine our future leaders.

NM Native Vote urges every vote be counted before formally declaring our future leaders.
