The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians has shared more than $850,000 in gaming revenues with the community in Michigan.

Under a consent decree in federal court, the tribe shares 2 percent of slot machine revenues with non-profits, charities and governmental units, including public schools, in a six-county area. Distributions occur twice a year -- in the winter and the summer.

Since the arrangement began in 1994, the tribe has shared more than $41 million with local governments, schools and other organizations, according to a press release posted by WPBN/WGTU.

The tribe operates three gaming facilities in Michigan.
