Alcohol is coming to the casino owned by the Spirit Lake Nation in North Dakota.

Voters overwhelmingly approve the sale of liquor at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort, The Fargo Forum reported. The tally was 588 in favor and 311 against, according to the certified results.

"I'm proud to be doing this legwork because I know it's going to benefit Spirit Lake Casino & Resort, Spirit Lake Tribe, and our people as a whole," tribal citizen Peter Owlboy Jr. , who spearheaded the referendum, said in a post on social media before the vote.

Final word of the night before the election. Thanks for everything. Thanks for the help. I'm proud to be doing this legwork because I know it's going to benefit Spirit Lake Casino & Resort, Spirit Lake Tribe, and our people as a whole. I hope you vote yes tomorrow. With that all I can say is if you or someone you know has any questions about the ordinance, it can most likely be answered here on today's posts. Have a good evening and rest easy. Thanks again.

The tribe was supposed to hold a referendum on liquor sales in May 2017. The council abruptly canceled the vote, The Devils Lake Journal reported at the time.

The new referendum only authorizes liquor to be sold at one place, the casino.
