A man who lives on the Navajo Nation won $4 million in the New Mexico Lottery.

Timothy Monte purchased the winning Mega Millions ticket at a convenience station on the west side in Albuquerque. That's not far from To'hajiilee, the Navajo community where he lives.

Monte brought his winning ticket to New Mexico Lottery headquarters in Albuquerque on Tuesday morning. He initially thought he had won $40,000.

That's when he found out he had even a bigger jackpot awaiting.

"I’m here to claim this," Monte said at the headquarters.

To'hajiilee is part of the Navajo Nation but it's not connected to the main reservation. It's less than 30 miles from the convenience store were Monte bought his ticket.

The winning numbers on the ticket were 05, 22, 26, 43, and 49. But since Monte purchased a "Megaplier" for another dollar, he was able to quadruple his prize.

Monte plans to use the winnings to help his family.
