Tesuque Casino on Facebook: Grand Opening

The Pueblo of Tesuque opened the doors to its new gaming facility in New Mexico on Friday.

The Tesuque Casino boasts 800 slot machines and 10 table games. The 72,000-square-foot property is the closest Indian gaming facility to Santa Fe, the state capital, and has put about 275 people to work.

"We're looking at opportunities for everybody -- citizens within the valley, job creation," Governor Rick Vigil told The Santa Fe Reporter.

The new facility is larger than the tribe's Camel Rock Casino, which shut down operations last week. It's next to the famed Santa Fe Opera, a well-known outdoor venue that typically hosts events only during the summer months.

Tesuque Casino is first new gaming property to open in northern New Mexico in nearly three years. The Pueblo of Nambé opened a casino nearby in January 2016 but it closed less than two years later.

Future plans include a hotel. Tentative plans call for a groundbreaking in 2019, according to the casino's Facebook account.
