Mississippi Choctaws become first in Indian Country with sports betting

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has made history with the launch of sports betting at its gaming facilities in Mississippi.

The Sportsbook at Timeout Lounge debuted at the Pearl River Resort on Thursday. Two days later, the Bok Homa Casino joined the game.

“We’re very excited to be one of the very first tribal gaming facilities to offer traditional sports wagering,” Chief Phyliss J. Anderson said in a press release.

The Mississippi Choctaws are the first in Indian Country to offer sports betting following the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that opened the door for states and tribes to offer such wagers. Other tribes have expressed interest in doing the same.

Sports betting was legal in Nevada even before the May 2018 ruling. Since then, Delaware, New Jersey, Mississippi and West Virginia have begun offering such wagers.
