The La Jolla Band of Luiseno Indians is finally getting back into the tribal gaming business.
The tribe is adding 75 slot machines to the La Jolla Trading Post, the gas station and convenience store on the reservation, The Valley Roadrunner reported. The games are expected to debut before the end of the month, the paper said. “We see this as another tribal enterprise adding to our economic potential. It’s not going to be a huge facility, but kind of a place where you can stop and fill up at a gas station that has some of the lowest prices around and do a little gambling,” Skye McMichael, the tribe's chief executive officer, told The Valley Roadrunner. “We’re going to have a community feeling.” The tribe previously operated a small casino from 2002 through 2005. There were plans for a new facility but that deal never worked out. The tribe then got on board with a new partner but nothing came of that project either. The tribe has since opened the longest zip line in California. There's also a popular campground on the reservation that sees more than 100,000 visitors every year. The La Jolla Trading Post is located on Highway 76 in Pauma Valley. Read More on the Story:
