The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will soon be offering sports betting at its gaming facilities following a landmark
decision from the U.S. Supreme Court.
Though a launch date has not been provided, the tribe is likely to be the first in Mississippi to offer such wagers. The state is still finalizing regulations for sports betting, WTOK reported.
"We expect it to go very well as Mississippi and Alabama both have dedicated sports fans," Chief Phyliss J. Anderson told the station.
The tribe took action following the May 14 decision from the nation's highest court. The ruling invalidated a federal law that was being used to prevent states from legalizing sports betting.
In a press release, the tribe said it amended existing regulations in order to offer sports betting at the Pearl River Resort and at the Bok Homa Casino. Additional changes, to cover fantasy sports and other types of games, are also in the works.
“The Resort is very excited about the opportunity to offer these new products for our guests in a vibrant and advanced gambling environment,” Chief Anderson said in the release.
