Opponents of a proposed casino in northern California say the Coast Miwok Tribe has chosen a site that may be contaminated with lead and unexploded ordnance from a nearby World War II U.S. Navy airfield.
A spokesperson for the tribe disputes the claim. He said the airfield was nowhere near the proposed site, near the city of Rohnert Park. The issue is being raised as the National Indian Gaming Commission conducts an environmental review of the tribe's casino site. The NIGC and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are evaluating the tribe's request to place up to 460 acres in trust. Get the Story:
