Conn. tribes provide appeals for casino employees

Monday, March 22, 2004

People who feel they were unfairly terminated at Connecticut's two tribally-owned casinos can follow an appeals process.

Both the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe allow review of termination. The Mashantucket Tribe gives 15 days to request a review before a casino board while the Mohegan Tribe provides a four-step process.

Firings at the Mashantucket Tribe's casino are formal, following a tribal court decision upholding the due process rights of employees. The board's decision can go to a tribal judge, but those cases are rare, The Norwich Bulletin reports.

The four-step process at the Mohegan Tribe's casino can be appealed to a casino manager. Attendance-related firings are not handled through this process.
