Rumsey Band opens doors to upgraded casino
Tuesday, April 6, 2004
The 44-member Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians welcomed more than 1,000 people to its new casino in northern California on Monday.
Traffic was not a problem, The Reno Gazette-Journal reported. The facility is located near Sacramento and includes a maximum of 2,000 slot machines, an event hall, a conference center and eight restaurants. The 200-room hotel will open in June.
The Rumsey Band is one of several tribes negotiating with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) for a revised casino compact. The tribes are willing to share more revenues with the state for the right to offer more slot machines.
