Calif. tribe denies land will be used for casino

Thursday, April 15, 2004

The Pinoleville Band of Pomo Indians of California says land the tribe is buying will not be used for a casino.

The tribe's deal for 105 acres near Ukiah sparked rumors of a casino. Chairwoman Leona Williams says the land was a former tribal village.

"The tribe has never planned or considered putting a casino on this land," Williams said in a statement quoted by the local press, which reported rumors of the casino.
