Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-Illinois) said he isn't likely to support the Ho-Chunk Nation's bid for a casino in a Chicago suburb.
Hastert, the Speaker of the House, didn't rule out an objection to a bill to acquire land for the tribe, which is based in Wisconsin. But he told The Chicago Tribune, "I don't think it's the right thing to do." Hastert previously sponsored a bill that would have terminated any outstanding treaty and land rights in his state. The tribe has the backing of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Illinois), who said he will introduce the bill. The tribe would still have to negotiate a Class III compact with the state. Get the Story:
