The Catawba Nation of South Carolina won't renew its options to purchase an off-reservation site it was eyeing for a casino.
The tribe wanted the factory outlet mall, located in Santee, for a high-stakes Class II bingo hall. But state leaders opposed the idea even though it had local support. With those plans scuttled, the tribe plans to bring Class III video poker to the reservation. Video gaming used to be legal in the state but was banned in the state constitution.
