Editorial: Say no to more gaming in California

Tuesday, October 12, 2004

"Gambling has a way of causing trouble in a relationship, so it's no surprise that California and Indian tribes have a few issues to work out over casinos on reservations. The state wants a bigger cut from the tribes' lucrative slot machines. Many tribes want larger casinos. Communities next to tribes want more protection from traffic and crime. Other gambling businesses want in on the action.

The dissatisfaction has produced two propositions on the November ballot, 68 and 70. Both are grabs for more money and would excessively expand gambling in California. Voters should defeat them."
