Agua Caliente Band runs final gaming campaign ad

Tuesday, October 26, 2004

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians in California is running the last campaign ad in support of Proposition 70.

The ad says tribes and the state will benefit if voters approve Prop. 70 on November 2. Tribes will be able to generate more revenues and the state will get a share, the ad says.

Prop. 70 would send 8.84 percent of net gaming revenues to the state under 99-year compacts. Tribes would be able to offer more than 2,000 slot machines, the current limit.

The tribe introduced the initiative in response to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's complaint that tribes are not paying their "fair share" to the state. Schwarzenegger (R) has been campaigning against Prop. 70, saying the "Indians are ripping us off."
