The Michigan Senate voted 24-11 on Wednesday on a measure that rescinds a gaming compact with the Match-e-be-nash-she-wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians.
Lawmakers previously approved the compact in December 2002 but it was never signed by former governor John Engler, a Republican. Current Gov. Jennifer Granholm, a Democrat, is still reviewing it but says the Senate's action was wrong. The tribe has been trying to open a casino in Allegan County for several years but has been blocked by opponents. Get the Story:
