Two California tribes have agreed to removed video lottery terminals that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) said were illegal.
The Morongo Band of Mission Indians and the Pechanga Band of Luiseņo Indians were told to remove the machines by Friday or face legal action. Schwarzenegger said the use of the terminals violated the tribal-state compact because they resembled slot machines. Each tribe is limited to 2,000 slot machines under the compact. The tribes believed they were not violating the compact but removed the terminals anyway. The tribes had met with Schwarzenegger's office about a possible resolution but nothing came of the talks.
