Decision delayed on liquor license for tribe's casino

Thursday, February 24, 2005

A decision on a liquor license application by the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin was delayed due to concerns over the impact on local businesses.

The tribe wants to offer liquor at its bingo hall in Madison. It would be served in the facility's dining area and in the gaming area during live entertainment nights.

The city's Alcohol License Review Committee heard complaints that the tribe will undercut local businesses by offering cheap liquor. The tribe was also urged to ban smoking because city bars have to do the same this summer.
