A Nevada gaming firm that operates a tribal casino in Sacramento and wants to open three more has a troubled history of fines, lawsuits and regulatory problems.
Among other woes, Station Casinos Inc. has paid $4 million in fines and penalties in Nevada and Missouri and paid $38 million to settle a single civil lawsuit. Also, female employees at the United Auburn Indian Community's casino near Sacramento recently filed a discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuit against the company. The state of California is still conducting a background check of Station even though it has been operating the Auburn casino since June 2003. Station has entered into deals to manage casinos for the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, the Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria and the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians.
