The Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin will ask the Bureau of Indian Affairs to take land into trust for an off-reservation casino in Illinois, The Munster Times reports.
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Illinois) said the tribe is preparing the application to acquire land in Lynwood. The tribe plans a gaming and entertainment complex on 432 acres in the city. Jackson and local leaders support the proposal. Jackson said he might consider a Congressional bill to speed up the process. Going through the Bureau of Indian Affairs and obtaining the support of the governor will likely take years. Get the Story:
