Quapaw Tribe fined for illegal casino agreement

Thursday, April 21, 2005

The Quapaw Tribe has been fined $50,000 for operating a casino without an approved management contract, The Oklahoman reports.

The National Indian Gaming Commission launched an investigation into the tribe in 2003. The agency eventually determined that the tribe had been operating its casino for more than three years without a valid management contract.

In addition to being fined, the tribe was told not to do any business with its former casino partner Marc Dunn, who had been accused by the tribe's former gaming commissioner of taking too much money from the casino. Dunn was involved in non-gaming matters, including the tribe's plan to relocate a chat pile.
