The White Earth Band of Ojibwe is asking the Bureau of Indian Affairs to place its casino in trust.
The tribe has paid property taxes on the Shooting Star Casino ever since it opened. According to The Fargo Forum, the tribe last year paid a total of $988,000 to the state of Minnesota, Mahnomen County, the city of Mahnomen and the local school district. The county relies heavily on the tax revenue, officials said. The tribe wants to meet to discuss alternatives if the land is place in trust, including making payments in lieu of taxes. Get the Story:
