The Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma hopes a land claim will prompt the state of Ohio to negotiate for a Class III gaming compact.
The tribe has detailed its claim but has not filed a lawsuit. The tribe wants to talk with Ohio attorney general Jim Petro in hopes of reaching a settlement. Tribes have used land claims to seek gaming rights in several states. The Seneca Nation settled its claim with New York for three casinos, including two located off the reservation.
