Pataki won't sign expanded land claim for casino bill

Wednesday, June 22, 2005

New York Gov. George Pataki (R) said on Tuesday he won't sign a bill that gives three tribes casinos in the Catskills in exchange for dropping their land claims.

Pataki submitted legislation only to settle the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe's claim. The bill passed the Democrat-led Assembly yesterday.

But the Republican leader of the Senate has introduced a bill that includes the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans from Wisconsin. Both are clients of his son, a lobbyist, the Ottaway News Service reported.
