Casino proposed near Gettysburg battle site
Thursday, June 23, 2005
Now that slot machines are legal in Pennsylvania, a group of investors wants to open a casino less than two miles from the site of the historic Gettysburg battle and the Gettysburg address.
State law authorized slot machines at 14 locations, including five stand-alone casinos. Backers of the Gettysburg Gaming Resort and Spa hope to win of the slot machine licenses.
But locals are up in arms over the proposal. They say a casino shouldn't be located so close to the Civil War site.
The Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation , both of Connecticut, are hoping to win slot machine licenses as well.
