Senate holds another hearing on Indian gaming

Monday, June 27, 2005

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee is holding its second oversight hearing on regulation of Indian gaming on Wednesday.

Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), has promised a series of hearings into the $19 billion industry. The first one was held on April 27, when tribal leaders urged caution in amending the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and others criticized the land-into-trust process.

The hearing on Wednesday will include two tribal leaders from Arizona. Vivian Juan-Saunders, chairwoman of the Tohono O'odham Nation and Dallas Massey Sr., chairman of the White Mountain Apache Tribe, are expected to tout the state's tribal gaming compact as a model.
