The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is closely watching Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) for his next move on Indian gaming.
McCain has held a series of hearings on the regulation of the $19 billion industry. He has criticized the tribe's deal with a former gaming partner, saying it may have gone beyond the intent of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The tribe now operates a highly successful casino on its own and probably wouldn't be affected by changes to the way casino management and partnership deals are handled at the federal level. But Chuck Bunnell, the tribe's chief of staff, said the tribe is watching McCain to make sure any proposed legislation is fair to Indian Country. Get the Story:
