Grindstone Rancheria seeks support for casino

Tuesday, August 16, 2005

The Grindstone Rancheria of Wintun-Wailaki Indians is seeking support for a non-reservation casino.

The tribe has a rancheria but the land is unsuitable for development. So Chairman Kenneth Swearinger is asking Glenn County to support a casino located along a major interstate highway.

The tribe is still in the early stages of development, The Chico Enterprise Record reported. The tribe has a lease/purchase option for 280 acres but needs to have the land placed in trust. The tribe also needs a Class III gaming compact with the state.
