After fight, San Manuel casino wins liquor license

Tuesday, September 27, 2005

An administrative law judge in California has approved the sale of liquor at the casino owned by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.

The tribe ran into fierce opposition from local residents who said the sale of alcohol would cause problems in the neighborhood. But the judge said the opponents didn't meet their burden of proof, a lawyer for the casino said.

The decision could be appealed but opponents said they have given up. The tribe has already made concessions, such as barring the sale of alcohol during school hours.
