The Seneca Nation of New York announced the purchase of land for a non-reservation casino in downtown Buffalo.
The tribe purchased a total of nine acres along the city's waterfront. The land includes a former rail terminal, The Buffalo News reported, but the tribe is considering additional properties, the paper said. The non-reservation casino is authorized as part of a land claim settlement with the state. The tribe previously opened a non-reservation casino in Niagara Falls, the only time the land claim exception in the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act has been used, according to federal officials.
