State sues Ho-Chunk Nation over compact talks

Monday, October 31, 2005

The state of Wisconsin sued the Ho-Chunk Nation on Friday to force the naming of an arbitrator for compact negotiations.

The state and the tribe disagree over the length of the compact, the types of games allowed and revenue sharing. But efforts to name an arbitrator to resolve these issues have failed, the state says.

The tribe is withholding $60 million in payments under an old compact whose provisions were invalidated by the state Supreme Court.
