Chippewa Cree Tribe to seek liquor license for casino

Tuesday, November 8, 2005

The council of the Chippewa Tribe of Montana voted 6-2 on Friday to seek a liquor license for a planned casino.

Jonathan Windy Boy and Rusty Gopher voted against the measure. Windy Boy said selling liquor would send a wrong message to the youth and go against the tribal principles.

A financial manager for the tribe's development corporation said liquor sales could increase revenue at the planned casino. The council will seek a license through the state of Montana.
