McCain bill on tap for Northwest gaming summit

Thursday, December 1, 2005

Attendees of the Northwest Gaming Law Summit are expected to discuss a new bill by Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) to overhaul the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

The two-day conference kicks off today in Seattle, Washington. Panel discussions include the land-into-trust process, tribal-state compacts, off-reservation gaming and other hot topics affecting the industry. The McCain bill will be the subject of a panel on Friday.

"The goal of the summit is to facilitate candid dialogue amongst stakeholders in the burgeoning Northwest tribal governmental gaming industry, about an array of legal and policy issues pervading the industry," said Gabriel S. Galanda, an Indian law and gaming attorney who is the co-chair of the event.
