Wyandotte Nation dismantles Kansas City casino

Thursday, December 1, 2005

The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma dismantled the mobile housing units that once housed its casino in Kansas, The Kansas City Star reported.

In August 2003, the tribe opened the casino on trust land in downtown Kansas City. But state officials raided the facility last year, forcing it to shut down.

The tribe is now fighting for the right to offer gaming on the land. Oral arguments were heard by the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals last month.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has affirmed that the land is held in trust. But whether it is eligible for gaming is an unresolved question.
