The Alexis Nakota Sioux First Nation is hoping a $63.5 million casino will help his people survive
The casino, hotel and truck stop are located on the reserve. Chief Cameron Alexis says it will create jobs and generate about $17 million a year for critical tribal government programs. But while unemployment on the reserve is high, businesses in nearby Whitecourt have a hard time finding employees. Some also say the casino will bring crime and create other social problems. The tribe will share slot machine revenues with Paragon Gaming, a Vegas company, charities, the Alberta lottery and other First Nations. Get the Story:
