Soboba Band moves quickly to open replacement gaming facility

The Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians expects to open a new gaming facility in southern California in the summer of 2018.

The tribe broke ground on the long-awaited development on February 28. The facility will replace the existing Soboba Casino.

"We have assembled a high-performance team who will move this project forward and has the type of momentum to get it pushed through to completion," general manager Scott Sorois said in a press release.

The site is about 1 mile from the existing casino, The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported. According to the paper, it will be built on 37.5 acres of a 410-acre property that was placed in trust by the Bureau of Indian Affairs in June 2015.
