The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is hoping business recovers at its casino in North Dakota.

Thousands of people have flocked to the reservation in hopes of stopping the Dakota Access Pipeline. But their presence hasn't boosted the Prairie Knights Casino and Resort and the tribe is now facing a $6 million shortfall, The Bismarck Tribune reports.

“It’s like it’s fallen off a cliff,” chief financial officer Jerome Long Bottom told the paper.

Troubles started when authorities in North Dakota last summer closed a bridge that offered the quickest route to the casino. A harsh winter didn't help matters either.

“I’m looking for things to improve as we move into summer,” general manager E.J. Iron Eyes told the paper.
