The Wilton Rancheria remains confident of its casino project even as a land deal fell through in California.
The tribe plans to build the $400 million casino on a 35.9-acre site in Elk Grove. But the city council on Wednesday repealed an agreement that would have allowed a third party to sell the land to the tribe.
The decision came in response to a petition circulated by casino opponents.
Still, Chairman Raymond Hitchcock believes the city's move won't affect its land-into-trust application for the site.
"We have a record of decision," Hitchcock told the council when asked about the status of the application, The Elk Grove News reported.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs issued the record of decision on the last full day of the Obama administration. But an official notice has not yet appeared in the Federal
Register, a step usually taken for similar
casino land applications.
