The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community of Michigan broke ground on two casino renovation projects this week.
The tribe is spending $33.5 million to upgrade the Ojibwa Casino in Marquette and $6.5 million on the facility in Baraga. Work is expected to be complete in September 2018, The Marquette Mining Journal reported.
The project at Marquette is the larger of the two. It includes an 80-room hotel, a 1,200-seat entertainment complex, a 400-seat conference facility and more space for slot machines, according to news reports.
Tribal members approved the projects in August.
