The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is seeing an increase in revenue and profit at its gaming enterprise.
Chief Phyliss Anderson told WTOK that revenues are up $11 million compared to the same time last year. And profits are up $2 million.
As a result, she told the station that the tribe has been able to refinance its gaming debt. "It will enable us to save about $8 million annually," she was quoted as saying.
Just a few years ago, the picture looked a lot different. The tribe cut back operations at its flagship Pearl River Resort amid the downturn in the national economy.
But since 2010, the tribe has come back with a new gaming facility and a $70 million renovation project at Pearl River.
