Ho-Chunk Nation starts work on $153M gaming expansion project

The Ho-Chunk Nation in Wisconsin has started work on a $153 million gaming expansion project.

As part of Project Forward, the tribe is upgrading its facilities in Wisconsin Dells, Black River Falls and Wittenberg. Three events were held last week to mark the start of work, according to news reports.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Elliot Garvin, a former tribal lawmaker, said at the last event on Friday, The La Crosse Tribune reported. “We’re going to be delving into a new adventure here."

The expansion at Wittenberg includes a new 86-room hotel while the Black River Falls facility will see a new 120-room hotel, according to the tribe. The hotel at the Wisconsin Dells will get a new main entrance and lobby. All three facilities will see other upgrades and renovations on their respective gaming floors and in other areas.

The tribe expects to complete work on all three casinos by the end of 2017, The La Crosse Tribune reported.
