Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation confirms death at casino

A patron died at the casino owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut on Tuesday.

Foxwoods Resort Casino confirmed the incident on Facebook and said state authorities are investigating. According to the Connecticut State Police, tribal officers confronted an armed man and shots were fired. The man then fell from the fourth floor of a parking garage at the facility and was pronounced dead on the scene.

"This morning, there was an isolated incident on property in the Fox Tower Garage that was quickly contained by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police; an investigation remains open with the State Police," the casino said on Tuesday. "The safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains Foxwoods’ top priority, and there is no current threat to anyone on the premises."

At least one tribal officer fired shots, according to the state police statement. But it's not clear whether the man died of bullet wounds or of his fall from the garage.

"The identity of the police officer/s is being withheld at this time," the statement read.
