The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians in California might finally award long-overdue gaming grants to the local community, The Sierra Star reports.
The tribe hasn't issued any grants since 2013 but the situation could finally change with the release of nearly $1 million -- possibly before the end of September -- the paper reports.
As part of an agreement with Madera County, the tribe agreed to share $10 million with the community over 10 years.
The 2013 grants -- which were delayed for another five months due to internal disputes -- marked the seventh year of the program.
The tribe's internal disputes eventually forced the closure of the
Chukchansi Gold Resort and
Casino for 14 months. The facility reopened on December 31, 2015.
