A settlement between the Oneida Nation and the state of New
York continues to benefit local communities.
The 2013 settlement requires the tribe to share 25 percent of slot machine revenues with the state. Of that amount, 25 percent goes to Oneida County.
So far this year, the county has received $7.7 million, The Rome Sentinel reported. That represents a huge 19 percent increase from the year prior, the paper said.
“It’s the right trend,” County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. told the paper. He expects the amount shared in 2016 to surpass last year's.
Additionally, the tribes pays $2.5 million a year to the county to address taxation issues. That arrangement continues through 2033, the paper said.
The tribe operates the Turning Stone Resort
Casino and the Yellow Brick Road
Casino.
