Plans for a seventh Native casino in Saskatchewan are gaining steam.
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations voted to ratify a gaming agreement with the province to include the new casino, according to news reports. Chief Bobby Cameron said the facility could be open as soon as the spring or summer of 2017.
"For the actual full operation, we're probably talking close to 500 jobs -- 500 jobs that families are going to benefit from," Cameron told reporters on Monday, according to video posted by FSIN on Twitter.
The casino would be operated by the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming
Authority and hosted on land owned by the Border Tribal Council in Lloydminister. The city spans the border of Saskatchewan and Alberta.
SIGA reported $258.3 million in revenues and $86.3 million in profits for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. Profits are distributed among the First Nations, the province and local partners.
